Best Set of WordPress Tools Everyone Needs to Give Support

Looking for some powerful WordPress Tools?

WordPress is a POWERHOUSE platform that can make all of your web dreams come true but it does need support from time to time. Having the right set of WordPress Tools is critical to providing good support.

Your WordPress Support Toolkit can be broken up into 3 categories:

  1. Organization
  2. Communication
  3. KNOWLEDGE <~~ most important by the way!!!

Now before I get into the thick of things, I want to share a short story with you.  A few weeks ago, about mid afternoon, there was a frantic knock at my front door.  I answered the door and it was the nanny of the little 2 year girl that lived next door.  She was in a panic because this little girl locked herself in the bathroom.

I tried my best to calm her down and said let me grab some tools and I will be right over to help.  I went to my garage and grabbed a flat head screwdriver, a phillips screwdriver and a metal coat hanger.  I rushed next door and within seconds was able to use the metal coat hanger to unlock the bathroom door and let the little girl out.

Now the reason I am telling you this is because there was a problem that required a set of tools to resolve it.  When I went to my garage I could have grabbed a hammer, a crow bar, a saw or even my welding torch.  Although all of these tools would have opened up that bathroom door they were NOT the best tools for the job.

So who is responsible for WordPress support?  Well I can start by saying if you are using a self hosted version of WordPress, I’m sorry to inform you but WordPress.com is not responsible.

If you are building sites for customers and they did not hire someone else to support their site or are not supporting the site themselves, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE.  Same goes for the sites that you are building for your own projects and ideas.

What are some of things that can cause WordPress to need support?

  1. Hosting requirements
  2. Outdated WP version
  3. Plugin conflicts
  4. Theme conflicts
  5. Plugin / Theme updates
  6. Malicious files on server
  7. Local computer settings
  8. User errors <~~ most common for sure :)
