Why Add Like Feature to WordPress Site?

We’ll love to receive comments on our posts, however writing comments can be boring sometimes, and unappreciated if the author of the blog posts doesn’t respond to users comments. And so, adding a feature that gives another blog reader the encouragement to contribute to the posts can turn out to be a profitable deal for you.

For instance, the ability to like a comment posted on a WP post or adding a Facebook or Twitter like button have proved as important factors in making the posts acknowledged by the users.

Type of Like Facilities Available in WordPress

  1. Google +1 buttons: is a great like facility that can be integrated in WP powered sites, search results and in Google ads as well. Adding comments using Google+, integrates your site with your Google+ social account’s profile.

To have this “like” featured added to your posts you’ll need to add a Google+ sharing button, allowing readers to quickly read your posts and then share them to their friends or followers. In order to add this button, you’ll have to go to Settings->Sharing at the bottom of the page in your dashboard.

  1. Like and Reblog Button: Another great way to show appreciation to your users is to “like” and “reblog” a post.

But before proceeding further and discussing about the like and reblog button, let’s first understand – what is reblogging? It helps to share posts that are published on your blog by other WordPress.com users. Reblogging is not new and has existed since the inception of blogging. However, the reblogging system has been modified and now provides authors have greater control over their content. This is because, the Reblog button has now been shifted into the post, and is no longer an option button that appeared at the top of WordPress blog posts. And so, the reblog button is more prominent and is more likely to be used by the readers.

This is a good practice that not only encourage interaction but also helps readers engage more with your social media accounts like Facebook, Twitter and others.

You can choose to hide/unhide reblog button on your posts. In addition, you can can choose to have like facility added to all the posts or for individual posts. For this purpose, you’ll need to regulate the likes and reblog button features by visiting to Settings->Sharing. Once you’ve selected your choices make sure to save all your changes by clicking on the “Save Changes” button.

  1. Ratings: Another form of “liking” facility is the “ratings” facility available for posts. Ratings is a popular way to measure the popularity of the blog posts. In order to add rating system to your posts, go to Settings->Ratings provided in the left sidebar in your dashboard (as shown in the screen shot below).

As you can see in the above screen shot, you can adjust where you want your ratings stars to appear in your posts, pages and comments as well.
